Journeyman Lineman

Location: Glidden, Iowa
Department: Operations
Employment Type: Full-Time

About the Role

Raccoon Valley Electric Cooperative (RVEC) is seeking a skilled and safety-focused Journeyman Lineman to join our Operations team. This position plays a vital role in ensuring reliable electric service to our members by constructing, maintaining, and repairing overhead and underground electrical distribution systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build, maintain, and repair energized and de-energized distribution lines and related equipment
  • Respond to outages and emergencies to restore service safely and efficiently
  • Install and maintain transformers, meters, and street lighting
  • Perform system inspections, maintenance, and troubleshooting
  • Operate trucks and equipment, ensuring proper use and maintenance
  • Promote safety practices and assist in training apprentice and lower-classified employees

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Completion of an approved electrical lineman apprenticeship or equivalent training
  • Valid Class A Iowa CDL and acceptable driving record
  • Valid First Aid and CPR certification
  • Proven experience in construction and maintenance of electrical distribution systems
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions, at heights, and during overtime or on-call situations

Working Conditions & Physical Demands:

  • May require irregular hours, including occasional evening meetings and emergency outages.
  • Some overnight travel is required.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs., work outdoors in various weather, and navigate uneven terrain.
  • Activities include standing, climbing, bending, and using hand tools or testing equipment.
