Job Opening: Lineman
Raccoon Valley Electric Cooperative | Glidden, Iowa
Raccoon Valley Electric Cooperative is seeking a safety-focused and motivated Apprentice or Journeyman Lineman to join our Operations Department. This position offers hands-on training and real-world experience while working under the supervision of experienced Linemen to build, maintain, and repair our electric distribution and transmission systems.
What You’ll Do:
- Assist in the construction, installation, and maintenance of overhead and underground electric lines
- Restore electric service to members during outages and emergencies, including after-hours calls
- Operate and maintain line trucks, trenchers, and related equipment
- Learn substation equipment and switching operations
- Support public and workplace safety by following all applicable procedures, codes, and regulations
What We’re Looking For:
- High school diploma or GED required
- Graduate of an accredited line school or equivalent experience
- Must have or be able to obtain a Class A Iowa CDL within 3 months of hire
- Basic knowledge of electrical systems, tools, and safety procedures
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to lift 50 lbs. and work at heights in all weather conditions
Physical Demands
- Must be able to lift and carry a minimum of 50 lbs.
- Possible frequent after-hour service calls to restore power outages and problems. Possibility of working continuous and lengthy hours with minimal rest.
- Position activities require reaching, standing, sitting, crawling, climbing, bending, kneeling, lifting, and good finger dexterity.
- Frequently climb poles and are at elevations working in awkward positions.
- May be required to walk in uneven or poor terrain during poor during poor weather conditions.
